Driver CPC Training

Esitu Solutions has partnered with PDT Fleet Training to create a new DVSA-accredited driver CPC training course focusing on hazard perception skills and understanding risk when driving.

DVSA Accredited Driver CPC Training

Esitu Solutions, in collaboration with PDT Fleet Training, has developed a seven hour Driver CPC training course Road Sense: Mastering Hazard Perception. Based on over 30 years of academic research, this innovative training course aims to significantly enhance the safety and performance of HGV drivers by improving their hazard perception and risk assessment skills. Designed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, the course offers valuable insights and practical skills to enhance driver safety on the road.

Designed by Professor David Crundall and Dr Victoria Kroll, leading experts in transport psychology, the course ensures drivers receive high-quality, evidence-based training that is both practical and engaging.

Who Should Attend?

The course is designed for vocational drivers completing 35 hours of periodic training to maintain their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

Course Content: What Drivers Will Learn

Hazard Awareness & Perception

Module 1 focuses on hazard perception, exploring how it relates to collision risk and why it is a critical skill for professional drivers. It introduces the Hazard Prediction Test, which research has shown to be particularly effective for identifying risk in professional drivers. Through scientifically validated hazard clips and interactive group activities, drivers gain a deeper understanding of how to recognise and respond to dangers on the road. Error-based feedback helps reinforce learning by highlighting missed hazards and guiding drivers towards better decision-making.

Risk Calibration & Decision-Making

Module 2 of course addresses risk-taking behaviour, examining why drivers take risks and how these behaviours can be changed. Using behavioural change techniques, drivers explore cognitive control, flow state, and personality traits that influence their driving decisions. Through dynamic group discussions and practical exercises, they learn how to recognise and manage risky behaviours, leading to safer driving habits.

Practical Tools for Safer Driving

Towards the end of the course, drivers develop personalised behavioural contracts that provide clear strategies for managing risk. These contracts serve as a commitment to ongoing improvement, helping drivers apply what they have learned in real-world scenarios.
